Confirm the service territory
The Public Utility Commission of Texas describes retail-provider arrangements in areas open to competition. Do not assume a statewide choice applies to every business address. Begin with your actual service address and current electric bill.
Build a commercial comparison
Ask suppliers to price the same usage profile and contract period. Separate the electricity supply assumptions from delivery charges, fees, and any items that can be adjusted during the term.
Plan around the end of the contract
- Record the expiration date and any notice requirements.
- Ask what service and pricing apply after expiration.
- Compare the treatment of changes in usage or business locations.
- Keep the signed contract and supplier contact details accessible.
PUCT describes Provider of Last Resort service as a backup arrangement with relatively high pricing. It should not be mistaken for an ordinary competitive quote or a renewal strategy.
