NJ / Business energy guide
Compare supply options for your New Jersey business.
Understand the supplier contract and the utility’s delivery role.
Supply and delivery have different jobs
New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities explains that a third-party supplier provides energy supply while the utility continues delivery, meter reading, service calls, and emergency assistance. A supply comparison should keep those responsibilities distinct.
Read the agreement before choosing
Review the quoted rate, the charges covered by it, the contract term, and termination provisions. Ask whether billing will be consolidated or separate, and confirm whom to contact about each part of your bill.
A useful brief for a multi-site business
- List each service address and its electricity or gas utility.
- Record the current supplier and expiration date for each contract.
- Separate electricity usage from natural gas usage.
- Identify any locations opening, closing, or changing operating hours.
These details help prevent a procurement decision based on an incomplete picture of your business. Review electricity and gas separately rather than assuming the same terms apply to both.
Prepare for a rate review
Keep a recent bill, your current agreement, and the renewal date together. For each quote, record the term, charges included, cancellation conditions, and any broker compensation. Savings are not guaranteed; compare total costs and contractual obligations.
